Can Foreigners Legally Operate a Minpaku in Japan?
Yes, but certain conditions must be met.
Operating a Minpaku requires a proper residence status in Japan. Common visa types or statuses that allow you to run such a business include:
- Permanent Resident (永住権)
- Spouse or Child of Japanese National / Permanent Resident (身分系ビザ)
- Business Manager Visa (経営・管理ビザ)
In short, foreigners do not need to become naturalized (帰化) to start a Minpaku business, but they must hold a visa status that legally allows business operation or self-employment.
